Overview
Atlassian consulting for the decisions that come before configuration
Atlassian consulting is advisory work on your Atlassian platform: Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Loom, Rovo and the apps around them. It answers questions such as how many sites you should run, who is allowed to create projects and fields, which plan and products you actually need, whether to move to Cloud now or later, and what to fix first in a site that has grown without rules.
It suits organisations at a turning point: a merger that has left two or three Jira sites, a Data Center licence with a renewal coming up, a new CIO asking why the Atlassian bill keeps growing, or teams that have stopped trusting Jira reports. A consulting engagement gives you a clear current-state picture, a target design and a costed roadmap. The work to deliver it can then be done by us, by your own team or by another partner.
Great Minds is an Atlassian Silver Solution Partner with Atlassian's Cloud Migration Delivery and Service Management Sales accreditations, based in Surry Hills, Sydney. We're also a systems integrator across CRM, ERP, marketing and service platforms, so our advice takes in how Atlassian connects to the rest of the business, not only how it's configured. Our guide to implementing Atlassian in your organisation sets out the principles we work from.
Capabilities
What an Atlassian consulting engagement covers
Most engagements start with a health check and end with a roadmap. In between, we focus on whichever of the areas below matter most to you. Licensing questions are covered in more depth on our Atlassian licensing page.
How we deliver
An Atlassian consulting engagement, from interviews to roadmap
Engagements are short and fixed in scope. We'd rather give you a clear answer in weeks than a long report nobody acts on.
Interviews with admins, team leads, executives and the people who complain about Jira, plus a review of the site configuration, usage data and licence position.
A current-state picture: what's working, what's costing time or money, the risks (security, unsupported versions, key-person dependency) and where the platform blocks other systems.
The target site structure, governance model, product and plan choices, and the integrations that should exist, with the trade-offs of each option stated plainly.
A sequenced, costed roadmap with quick wins first, presented to the people who fund it. You can deliver it with us, with your own team or with another partner.
Australian considerations
Questions Australian organisations should settle early
Deadlines that shape the roadmap. New customers haven't been able to buy Atlassian Data Center since 30 March 2026, existing customers can't add users or apps after 30 March 2028, and Data Center reaches end of life on 28 March 2029. If you run Data Center, the Cloud decision belongs at the start of any roadmap. Our Data Center to Cloud migration guide sets out the timeline.
Data residency and regulation. Jira, Confluence and Jira Service Management Cloud data can be pinned to Australia (Sydney) on Standard, Premium and Enterprise plans, which affects which plan you need. APRA-regulated entities should treat an Atlassian subscription that supports a critical operation as a service provider arrangement under CPS 230, with information security obligations under CPS 234.
Costs in Australian dollars. Atlassian invoices Cloud in US dollars, and AI and automation usage above plan allowances is billed from 3 December 2026. We model plan, user tier and usage costs in AUD, and buying through Great Minds gets you Australian-dollar invoices.
FAQ
Atlassian consulting questions
How is consulting different from implementation?
Consulting decides what should be built and why: structure, governance, products, plans and roadmap. Implementation builds it. Many clients use us for both, but a consulting engagement stands on its own, and the roadmap is written so any competent team can deliver it. See Atlassian implementation.
What does an Atlassian health check include?
A review of sites, products, users, apps, custom fields, workflows, permission schemes and automation rules, plus interviews with admins and key users. You get a prioritised list of fixes, a view of risk and licence waste, and an estimate of effort for each item.
We have several Jira sites after an acquisition. Should we merge them?
Usually, but not always. Merging reduces licence overlap and gives one view of work, but it means agreeing shared fields, workflows and permissions first. Sometimes regulatory or customer contracts require separation. We assess the trade-offs and plan a merge, if it makes sense, in stages.
Which Atlassian plan do we need?
It depends on what you need from admin controls, sandboxes, data residency, automation and AI allowances. Data residency is available from Standard; sandboxes and some advanced controls need Premium or Enterprise. We compare plans against your actual requirements, so you don't pay for features nobody uses.
Do you only recommend Atlassian products?
No. We deliver on several platforms, including Salesforce, Microsoft, Adobe and n8n, and we'll say when another tool fits better or when Atlassian should connect to an existing system rather than replace it. Our Atlassian integration page covers the connections.
How long does a consulting engagement take?
A health check takes a few weeks. A full target design and roadmap for a multi-site or multi-product platform takes longer. We agree the scope and price before we start.
People
The people who lead our Atlassian consulting
Atlassian consulting at Great Minds is led by senior consultants in Sydney who also design and deliver Atlassian implementations.
That matters for advice: the people writing your roadmap know what each recommendation takes to build, and they say so when a simpler option will do.
Case studies
Atlassian advice put into practice
For a premium kitchen appliance manufacturer, we acted as a trusted adviser to the go-to-market team, replacing several disconnected tools with Jira and Confluence. More than 50 teams and 400 tasks now run on one platform.
