Overview
Microsoft integration: connecting Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365 and Azure to the rest of your stack
Microsoft gives you several ways to move data, and choosing the right one for each flow is most of the design work. Dynamics 365 customer engagement apps and Power Platform share Dataverse, which has a standard OData v4 Web API. The finance and operations apps add OData for real-time reads and writes, a batch data API for high volumes, and dual-write for near-real-time sharing of records with Dataverse. Microsoft 365 data, such as users, Teams, SharePoint and Outlook, is reached through Microsoft Graph, a single API endpoint.
For flows between systems, Microsoft's Azure Integration Services include Logic Apps for workflows, API Management for publishing and securing APIs, Service Bus for messaging, Event Grid for events, Data Factory for data integration and Azure Functions for custom code. Power Automate covers lighter automation that business teams own.
Great Minds is a Sydney-based systems integrator, founded in 2009, positioned as the integrator for the gaps between your platforms. We design and build Microsoft integrations with both ends in view: Dynamics 365 to Salesforce, Teams to Jira Service Management, SharePoint to a DAM, or ERP to ecommerce. AI agents running on Claude and OpenAI models handle repetitive mapping, transformation and test work; our senior consultants own the design and sign off every release.
Capabilities
The Microsoft integrations we build
We pick the integration method for each flow on volume, latency and who will maintain it, then document it so your team can support it.
01Microsoft 365 integrationTeams notifications and approvals from other systems, SharePoint document libraries linked to CRM and project records, and Microsoft Entra ID for sign-in and user provisioning, built on Microsoft Graph.
02Dynamics 365 integrationDynamics 365 connected to Salesforce, ecommerce, payroll and industry systems through the Dataverse Web API, OData, the batch data API for volume, and business events that fire when an invoice posts or stock changes.
03Azure and infrastructure integrationLogic Apps, Service Bus and API Management for integrations that need queuing, retries and monitoring, and private connectivity so Power Platform can reach resources inside your network without exposing them to the internet.
04AI agents and MCPMCP servers that let AI agents read data and run actions under each user's permissions, such as the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server, and Copilot Studio agents connected to non-Microsoft systems through connectors. How we deliver
How we deliver a Microsoft integration
Which system owns each record, what moves where, how often and in what volume, and what should happen when a call fails. We draw this before choosing tools.
Dataverse Web API, OData or the batch data API, dual-write, Power Automate, Logic Apps, or the middleware you already run, chosen per flow on volume, latency and who will maintain it.
Integrations as code where possible, with retries, alerting and logs from day one. AI agents generate mappings and test cases; consultants review them and test against real data, including the error cases.
Monitoring, runbooks and documentation, then support from us or hand-over to your team. We usually start with one connection, then extend.
Australian considerations
Australian data residency and security
To keep an integration's data in Australia, run the integration services in the same regions as the systems they connect. Dynamics 365 customer engagement apps run in Microsoft's Australia East and Australia Southeast regions for Australian tenants, and Finance and Supply Chain production environments run in Australia East. Power Platform's virtual network support is available for Australian environments, using the Australia East and Australia Southeast Azure regions.
Integrations move personal information between systems, so the Privacy Act applies to every flow. We document what each integration carries, where it's processed and logged, and who can access it. For APRA-regulated entities, that documentation supports CPS 234 information security and CPS 230 operational risk assessments, including how each flow fails safely.
FAQ
Microsoft integration questions
Should we use Power Automate or Azure Logic Apps?
Power Automate suits automations that business teams own and change, such as approvals and notifications. Logic Apps suits integrations that IT owns, with source control, higher volumes and central monitoring. The choice is mostly about ownership, volume and governance.
How do you integrate Dynamics 365 with Salesforce?
We decide which system owns each record (accounts, products, orders and invoices) and sync from the owner, usually through the Dataverse or finance and operations APIs on one side and Salesforce's APIs on the other, via middleware. Many organisations run Dynamics 365 for ERP and Salesforce for CRM, and it works well when the integration is designed properly. See also our Salesforce integration page.
Can Microsoft 365 Copilot see data from Salesforce or Jira?
Yes, through Microsoft 365 Copilot connectors (formerly Microsoft Graph connectors), which bring external content into Microsoft Graph. Connectors exist for common sources including Jira and Salesforce. We check what's indexed and who can see it before it's switched on.
Can AI agents work with Dynamics 365 data safely?
Yes, if access is designed. The Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server lets agents built in Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry or third-party tools read data and run actions in Finance and Supply Chain under the user's permissions. We set up the permissions, logging and approval steps; our MCP integration page explains the approach.
Do we need Azure to integrate Dynamics 365?
Not always. Dual-write, virtual tables and Power Automate run inside Power Platform, and many flows only need those. Azure services such as Logic Apps, Service Bus and API Management come in when you need queuing, higher volumes, published APIs or connections to systems inside your network.
How do we start?
With one connection: the flow that causes the most re-keying today. We build it, run it in production and extend from there. Our systems integration page explains how.
