This guide sets out what Atlassian Cloud costs in Australian dollars and how the plan tiers compare. It explains how the new Rovo credit and automation step allowances work, and what to check before your next renewal. If you need to know how to buy, renew and get invoiced locally, read our companion guide to Atlassian licensing in Australia.
Can we pay for Atlassian Cloud in Australian dollars?
Not directly from Atlassian. Its purchasing and licensing FAQ says it can quote in USD, AUD and Japanese yen. But it is "unable to issue quotes or invoices in Australian dollars for orders containing cloud products or Marketplace apps". In practice, that means three things for an Australian buyer:
- Your Atlassian invoice is in USD. Finance carries the currency risk between quote, invoice and payment, and your bank or card provider adds its own foreign exchange margin.
- Atlassian charges 10% GST to Australian customers, based on billing address. Most GST-registered businesses can claim it back as a GST credit. Organisations that make input-taxed supplies, such as many financial services providers, may recover only part of it, so for them GST is a real cost.
- Exchange rate movements flow straight into your budget. At an AUD/USD rate around 0.70, each one-cent fall in the Australian dollar adds about 1.5% to the AUD cost of the same subscription.
The alternative is to buy through an Atlassian Silver Solution Partner that invoices you in AUD and takes on the currency conversion. That is one of the services in our Atlassian licensing practice. Either way, budget in AUD with a stated exchange-rate assumption, and revisit it before renewal.
What did the October 2026 price rise change?
Atlassian updated cloud list prices on 13 October 2026 (Pacific time), which was 14 October in Sydney. According to Atlassian's pricing FAQ, the update covers Standard, Premium and Enterprise plans for:
- Jira, Confluence and Teamwork Collection
- Jira Service Management and Service Collection
- Atlassian Guard Standard and Premium, Bitbucket Premium and Jira Product Discovery
- Atlassian Government Cloud
It applies to new purchases, renewals, user-tier upgrades and plan upgrades from that date.
The rise isn't a flat percentage. It varies by product, plan and user tier, so read your own row in Atlassian's pricing tables. Some examples from the annual tables:
| Annual subscription | Before 13 Oct (USD) | From 13 Oct (USD) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jira Standard, 500 users | 36,500 | 39,000 | +6.8% |
| Confluence Standard, 500 users | 24,000 | 25,500 | +6.3% |
| Jira Premium, 500 users | 62,500 | 67,000 | +7.2% |
| Teamwork Collection Standard, 100 users | 15,000 | 15,000 | No change |
| Teamwork Collection Standard, 500 users | 59,500 | 64,000 | +7.6% |
| Service Collection Premium, 50 agents | 26,000 | 28,000 | +7.7% |
| Jira Enterprise, 1,000 users | 166,000 | 179,000 | +7.8% |
Two transition rules still matter in November:
- Quotes generated before 13 October are honoured at the old price until they expire.
- Monthly customers who requested an annual quote before 13 October must pay it before it expires. Atlassian won't extend those quotes beyond 11 November 2026.
If you have one of those quotes open, check its expiry date this week.
What does each plan cost in AUD?
The table below converts Atlassian's new annual list prices at the RBA rate of US$0.6970 per A$1 (6 October 2026). Figures are rounded to the nearest A$10. They exclude partner discounts, Marketplace apps and the margin your bank adds, so treat them as a budgeting baseline, not a quote.
| Annual subscription | USD list | AUD ex GST | AUD inc GST |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jira Standard, 100 users | 9,700 | 13,920 | 15,310 |
| Confluence Standard, 100 users | 7,200 | 10,330 | 11,360 |
| Teamwork Collection Standard, 100 users | 15,000 | 21,520 | 23,670 |
| Jira + Confluence Standard, 500 users | 64,500 | 92,540 | 101,790 |
| Teamwork Collection Standard, 500 users | 64,000 | 91,820 | 101,000 |
| Jira + Confluence Premium, 500 users | 117,000 | 167,860 | 184,650 |
| Teamwork Collection Premium, 500 users | 141,000 | 202,300 | 222,530 |
| Service Collection Premium, 50 agents | 28,000 | 40,170 | 44,190 |
| Jira + Confluence Enterprise, 1,000 users | 316,000 | 453,370 | 498,710 |
Annual pricing is tiered. Atlassian's own example is a team of 480 Jira Standard users, which is billed at the 500-user tier. Monthly pricing is progressive per user, and it costs more. For 500 Jira Standard users, monthly billing works out to US$46,950 a year against US$39,000 on an annual plan, about 17% more. Atlassian has also moved monthly subscriptions to maximum quantity billing. You pay for the highest number of active users during the month, and removing users mid-month doesn't earn a credit.
Standard, Premium or Enterprise: which tier do we actually need?
Choose the tier from the controls you need, not from headcount. The differences that usually decide it for Australian mid-market and enterprise buyers, per Atlassian's Jira plan comparison, are:
- Standard includes Rovo search, chat and agents, data residency, 250 GB of storage and business-hours support. There is no uptime SLA, sandbox or cross-project planning.
- Premium adds cross-team planning and dependencies, customisable approvals, sandboxes, unlimited storage, 24/7 support for critical issues and a 99.9% uptime SLA. It also raises the AI and automation allowances.
- Enterprise is billed annually. It adds Atlassian Analytics and Data Lake, up to 150 sites, a 99.95% SLA and Atlassian Guard Standard (SSO and SCIM). Without Enterprise, Guard is a separate subscription. Enterprise pricing tables start at 1,000 users.
Two points often get missed in Australia. First, data residency in the Sydney region is available on Standard and above, so you don't need Enterprise just to keep Jira and Confluence data onshore. Our Data Center to Cloud migration guide explains what residency does and doesn't cover. Second, APRA-regulated entities often need the SLA, audit logging and identity controls of Premium or Enterprise to meet CPS 230 and CPS 234 expectations. Price those controls in from the start rather than discovering them at security review.
Is Teamwork Collection cheaper than buying Jira and Confluence separately?
At some sizes, yes. Teamwork Collection bundles Jira, Confluence, Loom and Rovo. At 100 users on Standard it costs US$15,000 a year, against US$16,900 for Jira and Confluence Standard bought separately. At 500 users the gap narrows to US$500. On Premium the collection is dearer: US$141,000 against US$117,000 for 500 users.
The bigger difference is the AI allowance. Teamwork Collection Standard includes 250 Rovo credits per user per month. Jira Standard and Confluence Standard include 25 each. If your teams will use Rovo chat and agents heavily, the collection can be the cheaper option once usage billing starts, as the worked example below shows. If they won't use Loom or Rovo much, separate licences are usually simpler.
How will Rovo credits and automation steps be billed from 3 December?
From 3 December 2026, Atlassian starts billing for usage above your plan's monthly allowance on most of its metered capabilities. It announced this on its company blog on 1 September 2026. The usage-based pricing page lists the meters: Rovo credits, automation steps, Assets objects, Bitbucket build and storage, and AI agent resolutions in Customer Service Management. Allowances are pooled across your organisation, reset monthly and don't carry over.
| Monthly allowance per user | Standard | Premium | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rovo credits: Jira or Confluence | 25 | 70 | 150 |
| Rovo credits: Teamwork or Service Collection | 250 | 700 | 1,500 |
| Automation steps: Jira | 400 | 750 | 1,000 |
| Automation steps: Confluence | 100 | 250 | 500 |
| Automation steps: Service Collection | 3,000 | 6,500 | 9,500 |
| Automation steps: Teamwork Collection | 2,500 | 5,000 | 7,500 |
Sources: Atlassian's Rovo credits documentation and automation usage documentation.
What uses credits:
- No credits: Rovo search, definitions and summaries.
- 10 credits per request: a basic chat answer or a basic agent request.
- A variable number of credits: Think Deeper mode, advanced agents, Confluence slides and the Jira coding agent.
Extra usage is listed at US$0.01 per credit (US$10 per 1,000). Extra automation is US$0.50 per 1,000 steps. Every trigger, condition, action, branch and loop counts as a step each time a rule runs, even when the rule ends with no actions performed.
One point to check in your own admin console: Atlassian's pages don't agree on the default setting. The usage-based pricing page says extra usage is enabled by default. The pricing FAQ says you are never charged beyond your allowance unless a billing admin enables it. Before 3 December, have a billing admin open Atlassian Administration, confirm the extra-usage setting and set a spending limit you are comfortable with. Admins get alerts at 80% and 100% of the Rovo allowance.
What could AI usage add to the bill? A worked example
Take a 500-person Australian organisation on annual Jira and Confluence Standard. Its pooled Rovo allowance is 25,000 credits a month (500 users × 25 credits × 2 apps). Assume each person makes 2 basic Rovo chat or agent requests per working day, at 10 credits each, over 21 working days. That is 210,000 credits a month.
| Plan (500 users) | Monthly pool (credits) | Excess at 210,000 credits | Extra cost per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jira + Confluence Standard | 25,000 | 185,000 | US$1,850 (about A$2,650) |
| Jira + Confluence Premium | 70,000 | 140,000 | US$1,400 (about A$2,010) |
| Teamwork Collection Standard | 125,000 | 85,000 | US$850 (about A$1,220) |
| Teamwork Collection Premium | 350,000 | 0 | Nil |
On Jira and Confluence Standard, that modest usage adds about A$31,800 a year before GST. That is a third of the A$92,540 subscription. Deeper research modes and agents that run on every new ticket would push it higher. The automation meter is far less likely to bite: the same organisation has 250,000 pooled steps a month, and 1 million extra steps costs US$500.
The usage pattern here is an assumption, not a measurement. Replace it with your own numbers from the usage views in Atlassian Administration. Atlassian also publishes a usage estimator, and notes that you can upgrade, pre-pay for credits or pay as you go.
What should we check before our next renewal?
- Confirm your price basis. Find your product, plan and tier in Atlassian's new pricing tables, and note any open quote issued before 13 October.
- Set an AUD budget with a stated exchange rate. Add GST, and add your bank's FX margin if Atlassian invoices you directly.
- Right-size the user tier. Deactivate inactive accounts before the renewal quote is generated. Annual tiers step up in blocks, so 20 inactive users can push you into the next tier.
- Check the extra-usage setting and spending limits for Rovo and automation before 3 December.
- Model Rovo demand by team for 3 months, then compare separate licences, Teamwork Collection and pre-paid credit packs.
- Review Marketplace apps. Paid cloud apps must match the host product's user tier, so every tier step also raises every app's price.
- Consolidate where it pays. Atlassian's FAQ suggests merging multiple Standard or Premium sites into one Enterprise subscription. Moving similar seat counts across Jira, Confluence, Guard and Loom onto Teamwork Collection can also save.
- If you are still on Data Center, plan the move to Cloud alongside the licence decision. Existing customers can't expand Data Center subscriptions after 30 March 2028.
Frequently asked questions
Does Atlassian add GST to cloud invoices?
Yes. Atlassian's purchasing FAQ states that Australian customers are subject to 10% GST. GST-registered businesses can generally claim it as a GST credit through their BAS.
Will Atlassian Cloud prices rise again?
Atlassian hasn't announced another list-price change. Build an allowance for a further rise into multi-year budgets, and check each renewal against the pricing tables in force at the time.
Are Rovo search and summaries charged?
No. Atlassian lists Rovo search, definitions and summaries as free features that don't use credits. Chat, agents, Think Deeper and the coding agent do.
Is Rovo included on the Free plan?
No. Rovo credits are included only in paid Standard, Premium and Enterprise plans. Jira Free has a 10-user limit and 150 automation steps a month per subscription.
